Notes, corrections, and the running bill

A FICTIONAL BUILD
This is what happened to me, not instructions for what you should do.

Gordon kept track of expenses and corrections because a missed number usually led to another trip or another day of work. These notes show what he encountered in the story. They are not current cost estimates or construction instructions.

WHAT WENT WRONG
The settling tank bench, schedule pressure, winter exposure and the limits of one-person work each required a different kind of correction. A bench that appeared level before filling could still move under the weight of the water.

COST CATEGORIES
Land carrying costs
Access and hauling
Kit and freight
Concrete and foundation
Tractor and equipment
Water supply and hauling
Generator fuel and propane
Weather protection
Tools and consumables

These are categories from the fictional project, not an itemized price list, supplier quote or estimate for another build.

TOWN-RUN LISTS
Combining hardware, supply and grocery runs reduced unnecessary travel. A missed item belonged on the next list, with the rest of the work it affected.

WINTER PROTECTION
Covered materials, shelter and inspection changed the schedule. These are general observations from the story, not universal instructions for protecting a real construction site.

PEOPLE AND ADVICE
The kit company and Marty, practical assistance from Duane, and the Old Hands community each play a distinct role. Advice at a distance does not replace another person on site when the work calls for help.

THE WATER BENCH
Gordon's uphill storage tank and the separate transport tank serve different jobs. The settling bench is a setback in the story, not an example to copy. Any real tank foundation and hillside work require site-specific professional advice.
