Notes from the project, arranged in the order the work happened. Gordon recorded measurements, deliveries, mistakes and the work that had to be done again. These are newly written fictional companion pieces based on the novel, not verbatim extracts.
FULL BUILD ARCHIVE
Includes later construction stages from Everything Is Numbered.
01 · THIRTY YEARS ON PAPER
A mountain parcel, a remembered brochure, and a spreadsheet that could not settle every question.
02 · THE ROAD IN
A trailer, rough mountain roads, a small clearing, and the first inventory of problems.
03 · WATER UNDER LOAD
The tank bench passed the checks Gordon made. It still moved when the weight arrived.
04 · A FIRST VIDEO
The tank mistake became Gordon's first plain-spoken account of a problem he could not tidy away. The video exists within the novel; this companion site contains illustrations and text.
05 · FOUNDATION AND SLAB
The work became more concrete, in every sense. Every stage demanded its own measurements.
06 · THE NUMBERED KIT
Logs carried markings. Sorting, lifting, protecting and verifying them became daily work.
07 · NINE COURSES
Progress was visible. So were the remaining steps and the weather closing in.
08 · PROTECTING THE WORK
The shelter, covered materials, and winter shutdown changed the schedule.
09 · A DIFFERENT KIND OF HELP
Questions on Old Hands and advice from Whitefish Framing were not substitutes for someone on site.
10 · ROOF, WINDOWS AND DOORS
With help for the critical lift, Gordon advanced the shell toward weather-tight.
11 · THE NEXT LIST
The exterior shell is closed against weather. Interior work remains, and Gordon is still living in the trailer.
